Southeastbound on I-78/PA 309 on the west side of Allentown. Exit 54 leads to the current beginning of US 222 (to the west) and PA 222 (to the east).

MD 222 ends and US 222 begins to the left. About the 90 miles to the northeast, US 222's other end becomes a state route of its likeness, PA 222, at I-78/PA 309.

From US 1 south, there is a junction sign for MD 222 but not for US 222.

The first reassurance shield for US 222 north also has an unnecessary sign for Truck US 222 north. Pennsylvania is but a few miles ahead.

US 222 ends and MD 222 begins running concurrently with US 1 south. Additionally, Truck MD 222 southbound begins on US 1 northbound.

US 222 once ended at old US 40 (now MD 7) in Perryville. Here US 222 is now MD 222 and ends at the stop sign, with MD 7 beginning to the left. This end was US 222's southernmost end.
