15 Entrance at the New York/Pennsylvania state line

Douglas Kerr 4/28/02

Southbound on US 15 entering Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania from New York. Construction on a I-99/US 15 bypass of Lawrenceville began in 2003, so this entrance will soon be a historic entrance.

Construction for the I-99/US 15 freeway at the New York/Pennsylvania state line is underway.

15 Historic Northern End · Carlisle Pike, Lemoyne

In the late 1920s and most of the 1930s, US 15 extended only as far north as old US 11/Carlisle Pike in Lemoyne.

No photos of this end have been submitted.

Before the Gettysburg bypass was built, US 15 followed its old two-lane routing, now Business US 15 north of the state line. Two miles south of the US 15 interchange and a half mile north of the next US 15 junction, Business US 15 meets the state line and ends. The remaining southern portion of the old US 15 alignment is a county road in Maryland.

A Frederick County welcome sign stands at the pavement change. Below that sign is a little white sign that reads SR 3001 END SEG, indicating that the last segment of SR 3001 (Business US 15) ends here.

At the same spot, but looking northward. The state line bisects a passing zone, but Pennsylvania signs a PASS WITH CARE sign anyway.

Just ahead, a small welcome sign appears as the road enters Adams County, Pennsylvania.

Also near the state line is the first northbound reassurance shield.

15 Entrance at the Maryland/Virginia state line

Timothy Reichard 1/13/03

US 15 crosses the Potomac River, which serves as a natural state boundary for Virginia and Maryland.

The Catoctin Mountain was eroded away by the Potomac. This bridge sits where the mountain would be if the Potomac had chosen another path. Incidentally, US 15 is the Catoctin Mountain Highway throughout Maryland.
