PA 31(E-W)/PA 96(S-N) Duplex

31 96

Pennsylvania Routes 31 and 96 join for 2 miles through Manns Choice in Bedford County.

Timothy Reichard 11/5/04

Westbound on PA 31 in Manns Choice. PA 31 meets PA 96 here at the eastern split, and the duplex begins to the right. This intersection also marks the western split of the Bike G/Bike S duplex.

Timothy Reichard 11/5/04

Westbound along the duplex, approaching the western split after a little under two miles of shared pavement have gone by.

Timothy Reichard 11/5/04

At the western split, PA 96 north makes a right to the north. PA 96 soon crosses the Pennsylvania Turnpike (without an interchange) on its way north to Shawnee State Park and Schellsburg. PA 31 continues westward, paralleling the turnpike all the way to New Stanton.

Timothy Reichard 11/5/04

Now southbound on PA 96 approaching the western split. Before meeting PA 31, PA 96 crosses the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River.

Timothy Reichard 11/5/04

Eastbound along the two-lane duplex in rural Bedford County.

A disturbed sign assembly indicates the upcoming split in Manns Choice.

PA 31/PA 96 split onto the main drag off Manns Choice. The original Main Street is one block ahead at the distant stop sign. PA 31 and PA 96 used to use that street, but now use the short bypass of the town. PA 96 heads straight for the Maryland border, intersecting no more state routes on that 25 mile journey. PA 31 east ends at US 30 a few miles away.
