The northern extension of I-99/US 220 is planned. From south to north:

  • Exit 1 · Business US 220/PA 56 Bedford interchange · I-99 begins
  • Exits 1 to 52 · Beford to Bald Eagle · Completed 1970s-1990s. Designated US 220 as each section was completed. Designated I-99 in 1996.
  • Exits 52 to 68 · Bald Eagle to State College bypass · Construction began in 2000. Completion expected in 2007. I-99/US 220/US 322 designation to come in 2007 (the section north of Port Matilda may open in 2006). Project web site: http://i99.dickinfolink.com/
  • Exits 68 to 73 · State College bypass · Completed in 1980s as part of State College bypass. Designated US 322 in 1980s. US 220 designation added in Nov. 2002. I-99 designation to be added in 2007.
  • Exits 73 to 81 · State College bypass to Bellefonte bypass · Construction began in 1999 and finished in Nov. 2002. US 220 designation added in Nov. 2002. I-99 designation to be added in 2007. Project web site: http://www.penndot2.com/route26/index.html
  • Exits 81 to 86 · Bellefonte bypass · Completed as Super-2 expressway in 1970s. Upgraded to 4-lane freeway in late 1990s. Designated PA 26 in 1970s. US 220 designation added in Nov. 2002. I-99 designation to be added in 2007. I-80 & I-99 interchange remains to be rebuilt.
  • I-80/US 220 Exits 161 to 178 · I-99 designation to be added in the future.
  • Exits 103? to 106? · I-80 to PA 477 · No schedule set.
  • Exits 106? to 122? · PA 477 to Jersey Shore bypass · Designated US 220 upon completion in 1978. I-99 designation to be added in the future.
  • Exits 122? to 131? · Jersey Shore bypass to Williamsport bypass · Under study until 2004; plans deferred at least several years. Would have become I-99/US 220 freeway.
  • Exits 131? to 135? · Williamsport bypass to I-180/US 220/US 15 · Designated US 220 upon completion in 1973.
  • At Exit 135?, US 220 splits to the east, following I-180/US 15. I-99 splits to the north, following US 15.
